Two Chinese Embroidered Silk Shawls.
Each worked in silk embroidery, one on a green ground and the other on a light brown ground, both decorated with dense arrangements of peonies and scrolling floral motifs, the designs rendered in polychrome threads with fine needlework. The borders finished with long silk fringe, enhancing the decorative effect and movement of the textiles. The peony motifs, traditionally associated with wealth and honor, contribute to the auspicious character of the overall design.
{Approximate dimensions: Green H 40 1/2 inches x W 40 1/2 inches (102.9 x 102.9 cm); Brown H 48 inches x W 48 inches (121.9 x 121.9 cm)}
