Still Life with Fruits, oil on canvas; 20th century, unsigned. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 21 3/8" H x 29 1/2" W, canvas: 22 1/8" H x 30 1/8" W]. This anonymous artist created a traditional still-life painting using a warm color palette against a dark background. The various fruits such as yellow pear, strawberries, and apples are placed in glass and ceramic stemmed bowls. In the background, stacked books support a wine decanter and crystal goblet. The cover of the ceramic stemmed bowl containing the strawberries sits on the far side of the table, atop a green cloth that partially drapes the table.

Surface dust and very minor varnish aging. No visible inpaint under UV/black light. Very minor dirt pockets verso. Framed: 26 3/8" H x 34 5/8" W.

Daniel M. (Wygold) Mitchell Estate. Mr. Mitchell was a Naval Officer and an entrepreneur. Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items. His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to a variety of Empire and Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural clocks, marble and bronze sculptures, bronze and gilt brass urns, and complex models of military ships and aircraft.
