After Jan Davidsz. de Heem (Dutch, 1606–about 1684), "Still Life with Fruits, Pie, and Silver and Silver-Gilt Tazze, 1653", oil on canvas, 20th century copy. Signed 'J de Heem fecit A 1653' at upper left. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 19 1/8" H x 24 1/2" W, canvas: 19 1/2" H x 25" W]. De Heem was one of the Netherlands most celebrated 17th century still-life painters. Although he was a native of Utrecht, he spent much of his life in Antwerp. There he became heavily influenced by Flemish masters, specializing in lavish still lifes and festoons, and became particularly known for his realistic depictions of gold and silver.

Surface dust, gloss varnish. and abrasion at lower left corner. Surface shows some dots on the varnish. No visible inpaint under UV/black light. Dirt pockets to verso. Framed: 27 3/4" H x 33" W.

Daniel M. (Wygold) Mitchell Estate. Mr. Mitchell was a Naval Officer and an entrepreneur. Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items. His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to a variety of Empire and Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural clocks, marble and bronze sculptures, bronze and gilt brass urns, and complex models of military ships and aircraft.
