After Auguste Toulmouche (French, 1829-1890), "In the Garden," oil on canvas. Unsigned. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 31 1/2" H x 25 1/4" W, canvas: 32" H x 26" W]. An elegant lady in a yellow dress holding a blue parasol plucks a rose from a bush in a garden court with arched columns in the background. Auguste Toulmouche was a French academic painter known for his luxurious genre paintings of upper middle class Parisian women in domestic scenes. He enjoyed great success among the elites in Paris and beyond, and won the coveted Legion of Honor award in 1871. 

Surface dust, some paint cracking, gloss varnish, and no visible inpaint under UV/black light. Minor dirt pockets verso. Framed: 39" H x 32 5/8" W.

Daniel M. (Wygold) Mitchell Estate. Mr. Mitchell was a Naval Officer and an entrepreneur. Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items. His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to a variety of Empire and Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural clocks, marble and bronze sculptures, bronze and gilt brass urns, and complex models of military ships and aircraft.
