Paul Charles Chocarne-Moreau (French, 1855-1931), "Cache-Cache" (Hide and Seek), oil on canvas. Signed "Chocarne-Moreau" at lower right. Named, titled, and artist's dates on plaque recto. Two round stickers labelled as 'Osenat' at verso. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 25" H x. 31 3/8" W, canvas: 26" H x 32" W]. Chocarne-Moreau studied under Bouguereau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became a highly celebrated French genre painter. He often depicted anecdotal, humorous scenes of Parisian children in mischievous activities, with academic precision.

Plaque was previously taped to the frame recto but has been removed due to losing its adhesive. The plaque is included with the item. Minor surface dust. Semi gloss varnished that may possibly have some varnished age. Craquelure throughout the painting. Frame abrasion at the left side. Three very tiny puncture-like areas that have paint loss, one of the left and two on the right. Under UV/black light, visible inpainting at the left side of the painting, particularly at the bottom left corner and the boy hiding in the grandfather clock. At verso, canvas partially sealed with foam board, dirt pockets, and complete keys. Gilt frame which shows wear especially to the miter joints. Frame has weight, framed: 35 3/8" H x 42" W. Ask Fine Art Department for additional photos.
