Giulio Rosati (Italian, 1857-1917), "An Idle Hour," watercolor on heavy paper. Signed 'Giulio Rosati' at lower right. Named, titled, and artist's date on plaque recto. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 17 1/8" H x 12 3/4" W]. Rosati gained fame as a celebrated Italian academic artist who specialized in highly technical and detailed Orientalist scenes, such as the one represented here. The composition is likely based on the painting "An Idle Hour" by Paolo Mei, painted in 1876, when Rosati would have been 19 years of age (Bonhams, San Francisco, January 20, 2013, Lot 3050).
