Émile-Victor Blavier (French, 1821-1887), "La Comte de a la Bataille de Sedan 1641," bronze. Title inscribed and signed 'E Blavier' at left side area. [Approximate dimensions - overall: 16" H x 25" L x 11" W]. Blavier was a prominent 19th century French academic sculptor, whose works are heavily celebrated for their realism, exquisite hand-chiseling, and rich patinas. His subject matter frequently captured historical figures, romanticized rustic scenes, and elegant portrait busts. The subject here is Louis de Bourbon, Comte de Soissons (1604-1641), at the Battle of La Marfée, which is also historically referred to as the Battle of Sedan. The battle took place on July 6, 1641 near Sedan. Soissons and the forces allied with Frédéric-Maurice de La Tour d’Auvergne, duc de Bouillon.

Bronze has weight. Surface dust and dirt. Handling wear. Sculpture is not mounted to base.
