Japanese Butsudan Shrine with Buddha and Ritual Implements.
The shrine of rectangular form with a black lacquer exterior, opening to reveal a richly decorated interior arranged in multiple tiers, the outer doors fitted with metal mounts, the interior surfaces of the doors decorated in relief with auspicious motifs including chrysanthemums, cranes, and cloud forms, enclosing a second set of inner doors composed of translucent lattice panels with gilt elements; the interior centered with a gilt altar housing a seated figure of Amida Buddha, with birds above and surfaces showing evidence of devotional use, including accumulated incense ash darkening the offering tray; the lower section fitted with a cabinet containing ritual implements including a bell and striker, together with a small cushion and cloths used in practice, the overall design reflecting the traditional domestic Buddhist altar as a focal point for daily worship and remembrance.
