Five Chinese Wedding Baskets.
The group comprising five wedding baskets of varying forms and sizes, constructed in wood and lacquer, each fitted with a tall carrying handle and opening to reveal compartmentalized interiors. The surfaces are decorated with carved or painted panels featuring auspicious motifs, including floral scrolls, geometric key-fret patterns, and traditional designs rendered in red, black, and gold tones. The group includes examples of rounded and polygonal form, as well as tiered cylindrical types with stacked compartments, reflecting regional variation in both structure and ornament. The combination of functional design and decorative detailing underscores their role in traditional wedding customs, where such baskets were used to transport and present ceremonial gifts and offerings.
