Frederick Wilhelm Jankowski [also known as Johann Wilhelm Jankowski] (Austrian, circa 1825-1870), "A River Town," oil on canvas. Signed 'JWJankowski' at lower left. Plaque recto: 'Frederick Wilhelm Jankowski, A River Town, 1825-1870.' [Approximate dimensions - sight: 20 1/4" H x 16 1/4" W]. A river flowing past buildings with a few gondola type boats in the foreground. Jankowski was a noted prolific landscape and cityscape painter. Art historians often find his biography elusive, and it is widely believed he used variations of his name—signing works as Friedr. Wilh. Jankowski, F.W. Jankowsky, or J. Wilhelm Jankowsky—while operating primarily out of Vienna.

Canvas lined. Gloss varnished with minor aging. Craquelure throughout. Frame abrasions. Under UV/black light, visible inpainting in the sky area, on the buildings, and some minor areas on the water. Framed: 26 1/2" H x 22 1/2" W. Ask Fine Art Department for additional photos.
