A Pair of Chinese Blue and White Hexagonal Vases.
19th Century.
Each decorated with a continuous landscape with figures and a poetic inscription.
{Height 23 5/8 inches (60 cm), mouth diameter 7 1/4 inches (18.4 cm) each}.

Provenance: Collection of a distinguished scholar at the University of California.

Accompanied by two documents. The first is a postcard issued by Chung Wah, a furniture and antiques dealer in Hong Kong, with the entries Cheng Lung (1736-1795) and Chia Ching (1796-1820) circled, possibly recording a suggested Qianlong or Jiaqing attribution for the vases. The second is a room confirmation letter from the Executive Assistant Manager of The Hong Kong Hotel for a stay beginning August 15, 1970. A partial English translation of the poetic inscriptions on the vases is handwritten on the reverse, apparently obtained in Hong Kong around the time of acquisition.

The scholar visited China and Hong Kong several times during the 1970s and 1980s and received numerous gifts during these visits. Michaan's Auctions is honored to present this pair from the collection.
