English School (19th Century), "Portrait of a Mayor," c. 1820, oil on canvas. Unsigned. Plaque recto: 'English School, Portrait of A Mayor, Early 19th Century.' Label verso, text slightly faded, but states '..Sir Thomas Lawrence, English School, Portrait of a Mayor.' [Approximate dimensions - sight: 49" H x 39 3/8" W, canvas: 51" H x 40" W]. This anonymous portrait of a mayor or other city civic dignitary is typical of civic portraits by Lawrence and others through the early- to mid-19th century.
Canvas lined. Surface dust and dirt, craquelure throughout including stress cracking, and frame abrasions. Visible inpaint under UV/black light. Dirt pockets verso. In a gilt ornate frame which shows wear. Framed: 55 3/4" H x 46 1/2" W. Ask Fine Arts Department for additional photos.

Daniel M. (Wygold) Mitchell Estate. Mr. Mitchell was a Naval Officer and an entrepreneur. Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items. His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to a variety of Empire and Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural clocks, marble and bronze sculptures, bronze and gilt brass urns, and complex models of military ships and aircraft.
