Attributed to He Chaozong (early 17th century): Chinese Blanc de Chine Figure of Guanyin.

The figure standing on a lotus base, depicted with downcast eyes and a serene expression, the face full and softly modeled, the hair gathered beneath a cowl and adorned with a ruyi-form ornament, draped in long flowing robes with a shawl cascading over the shoulders, all covered in a creamy white glaze with a slight ivory tone. The figure is hollow, consistent with Dehua porcelain practice, and the reverse impressed with a gourd-shaped seal reading “Dehua” and a square seal reading “Seal of He Chaozong.”The refined modeling, elegant proportions, and smooth, lustrous glaze exemplify the Dehua kilns’ pursuit of jade-like purity, while the gently animated folds of the garment and suggestion of movement in the base convey a sense of pulsating dynamism within an tranquil presence.
