After Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino [called Raphael], (Italian, 1483-1520), Conestabile Madonna (Madonna and Child), oil on panel. Likely late 18th-century. Housed in a 19th-century elaborate, carved, gilt, and painted wood tabernacle frame that resembles the design of the original painting's frame. {https://www.hermitagemuseum.org/digital-collection/29672?lng=en}. Plaque recto with attribution, title, and artist's dates. Old stencil numbers '86' to the panel verso, along with an aged label in German script, and illegible pencil inscription on the frame verso. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 7 3/16" H x 7 1/8" W]. This beautifully executed depiction of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child before a detailed landscape with minute figures is a faithful copy of Raphael's early masterpiece, painted around 1504.

Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items. His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to precise metal aircraft and automobile models. Michaan’s is honored to be offering this collection over the next four months.
