A Japanese Satsuma 'Figures' Plate. A Japanese Satsuma plate of circular form, the wide rim painted on a warm buff ground with a continuous frieze of elegantly robed figures walking in procession before stylized trees and foliage, the garments picked out in soft polychrome enamels and richly heightened with fine gilt details. The inner edge is enclosed by a narrow gilt scroll band, while the central well is left plain with a creamy glaze, creating a strong contrast to the busy border. The reverse bears an overglaze iron-red rectangular seal mark above a lightly impressed mark within a gilt frame. {Approximate dimensions - diameter 7 1/2 inches}.
