Provenance: From the collection of the distinguished San Francisco collector Irving Freedenberg, known as “Bill.”

Appraisal History: The present work was appraised on July 6, 1979, by Leonard Bowman, a fine arts appraiser active in San Francisco and Honolulu. Listed as Item 7 on page 2 of the appraisal, the work was identified at that time as dating to the “Early Qianlong Period, 17th–18th century” and assigned a replacement and insurable value of $500.

The present lot is also accompanied by a Certificate of Antiquity, Lot No. 26, issued by Robert D. Thompson, a Hong Kong auctioneer, and dated October 25, 1975.
