A Chinese Jizhou-type Black-glazed Bowl

The bowl has rounded sides rising from a short circular foot to a plain rim. It is covered inside and out with a lustrous dark brown-black glaze. The interior is decorated with repeated paper-cut floral and foliate motifs arranged around the central medallion, together with a band of smaller motifs below the rim. The exterior is patterned with irregular pale gray and grayish-brown splashes against the dark glaze.
The contrasting decoration exemplifies the paper-cut and variegated glaze techniques associated with Jizhou ware. The unglazed foot reveals the stoneware body.
The underside is annotated in black ink “AP 12B-17,” probably a former collection or inventory number.
Height 2 1/2 inches x Diameter 5 1/2 inches (6.4 x 14 cm).
吉州窑式黑釉剪纸贴花碗
碗呈弧腹，直口，下承矮圈足。器内外施光润的深褐黑釉。碗内以重复排列的剪纸贴花花叶纹装饰，纹饰环绕中心圆形区域展开，近口沿处另饰一周细小连续纹样。碗外壁于深色釉面上散布不规则的浅灰色及灰褐色斑纹，形成深浅相间的自然变化。
器物以深色底釉与浅色纹样形成鲜明对比，体现吉州窑具有代表性的剪纸贴花及斑纹釉装饰技法。圈足及足底露胎。
底部后加黑色墨书收藏或库存编号“AP 12B-17”。
