Provenance: From the collection of the distinguished San Francisco collector Irving Freedenberg, known as “Bill.”

Appraisal History: The present work was appraised on July 6, 1979, by Leonard Bowman, a fine arts appraiser active in San Francisco and Honolulu. Listed as Item 9 on page 3 of the appraisal, the work was identified at that time as dating to the “Early Medieval Period, 3rd to 6th century A.D.” and assigned a replacement and insurable value of $250.
