Robert Innes (Scottish/British, 1806-1881), Portrait of Captain Burton, 1827, oil on canvas, lined. Signed, dated, and inscribed 'Robt Innes Pinxt 1827' at lower left. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 29 5/8" H x 24 5/8" W, canvas: 29 7/8" H x 25 1/8" W]. A half-length portrait of Captain Burton, wearing a black coat with white stock. Active mainly in Edinburgh, Innes was noted for portraits of Scottish sitters and military officers.

Canvas lined. Surface dirt, varnish aging, and craquelure throughout. Frame abrasions. Visible inpainting under UV/black light. Keys verso and dirt pockets. Framed: 37" H x 32" W. Ask Fine Art Department for additional photos.

Daniel M. (Wygold) Mitchell Estate. Mr. Mitchell was a Naval Officer and an entrepreneur. Serendipitously, Lieutenant Commander Dan Mitchell transferred to the Naval Reserve where he joined VR-872 – a Navel transport squadron out of the Alameda Naval Air Station that Michaan’s is located on now. He and his wife, Paris, loved to travel and made it a point to travel to Paris twice a year, and always brought back beautiful and interesting items.  His collection covers the spectrum from noted painters to a variety of Empire and Empire Style Gilt Bronze Figural clocks, marble and bronze sculptures, bronze and gilt brass urns, and complex models of military ships and aircraft.
