Two Chinese Dragon Lamps.
Late Qing Dynasty to Republic Period
A decorative pair of Chinese carved wooden lamps featuring intertwined dragons rendered in high relief. Each lamp is carved with sinuous dragon forms winding around the shaft, with additional dragon-head motifs supporting the upper lamp brackets. The openwork carving and dynamic treatment of the dragons reflect the continued popularity of auspicious dragon imagery in late Qing and early Republican decorative arts. One lamp is mounted on an elaborately carved four-footed stand, while the other rests on a circular carved base. Likely adapted for electrical use in the early twentieth century.
