Three Japanese Woodblock Prints.

Color woodblock prints on paper, including Aigasa by Suzuki Harunobu, depicting elegantly dressed figures sharing an umbrella in a refined example of early ukiyo-e bijin-ga, characterized by delicate line, soft coloration, and an emphasis on intimate human interaction; a portrait of a beauty by Shimura Tatsumi, rendered with simplified forms and a restrained palette, emphasizing grace, modern sensibility, and the expressive potential of minimal composition; and Mandarin Ducks by Ohara Koson, portraying a pair of ducks gliding beneath overhanging branches, executed with subtle gradations and careful attention to natural detail, reflecting the shin-hanga movement’s focus on atmosphere and seasonal observation. Together, the group presents a range of subjects—from human figures to nature—demonstrating the evolution of Japanese woodblock printmaking from the poetic refinement of the Edo period to the more modern interpretations of form and mood in the twentieth century.

{Approximate dimensions: Harunobu H 11 1/2 inches x W 7 1/4 inches (29.2 x 18.4 cm); Shimura H 13 1/4 inches x W 10 1/4 inches (33.7 x 26 cm); Koson H 13 3/4 inches x W 9 1/4 inches (34.9 x 23.5 cm)}
