Staffordshire Pottery Saltglaze House Teapot. Attributed to Thomas and John Wedgwood at Burslem, The Big House. Diamond shaped body, the paneled sides slip cast with a central shell in recessed square, within bands of key pattern, on a stepped pedestal foot, the spout molded with a human face and arm entwined with a gaping serpent, and rolled handle with flattened notches.
Unmarked. Circa 1745-1755. (Approximate dimensions: 5 1/2" H.}.
The handle with its flat areas called natching, is associated to John and Thomas Wedgwood pottery works at The Big House, Burslem. Mountford, shows a block mold for a pot of this form, figure 109.
The cover professionally restored, and spray painted, now visible. Firing cracks and knop reglued, also spray painted.
