Russian Orthodox Icon of the Mother, tempera on wood. Depicting the crowned Mother of God, possibly as the Joy of All Who Sorrow, holding the crowned Christ Child and interceding for the suffering, aided by angels.

In fair condition considering age, without apparent restoration. Wear includes vertical crack across icon to left of center, about 1 1/2" hairline crack near lower border, chips, nicks, finish losses, craquelure, dirt. Panel is warped.
