Paul Chocarne-Moreau (French, 1855-1931), "Le Vin de Masse" (The Wine of Mass), oil on canvas, laid down on masonite. Signed 'Chocarne Moreau' lower right. Named and artist's dates on plaque recto. [Approximate dimensions - sight: 23 1/2" H x 19 5/8" W]. Chocarne-Moreau studied under Bouguereau at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and became a highly celebrated French genre painter. He often depicted anecdotal, humorous scenes of Parisian children in mischievous activities, with academic precision. Here he depicts two young boys, one dressed as a baker the other as an altar boy in the vestry of a church.
Canvas laid down on masonite board. Surface dust and dirt. Craquelure throughout painting. High gloss varnish. Visible inpainting under UV/black light. Gilt frame shows wear and surface dust and dirt; framed: 31 1/2" H x 27 1/2" W. Ask Fine Arts Department for additional photos.
