Pair of Chinese Qianlong-Style Cloisonné Lotus Vases
Republican Period
A finely executed pair of cloisonné enamel vases in the Qianlong style, each of elegant baluster form with elaborate gilt-bronze beast-head handles. The turquoise-blue ground is richly decorated with scrolling lotus blossoms and foliate vines in vibrant polychrome enamels, a design inspired by imperial cloisonné wares of the eighteenth century.
The vases display the high level of craftsmanship characteristic of Republican-period cloisonné production, with intricate wirework, harmonious color combinations, and finely detailed floral ornamentation. The stylized beast-head handles derive from archaic bronze prototypes, reflecting the enduring influence of ancient Chinese decorative traditions. The lotus scrolls symbolize purity, prosperity, and auspicious blessings, while the brilliant turquoise ground enhances the overall richness of the design.
