Pair of Chinese Aubergine Porcelain Octagonal Vases.

The pair of octagonal baluster-form vases with gently tapering bodies and flared necks, covered overall in a deep aubergine glaze of even tone, the faceted sides emphasizing the geometric structure of the form and the glaze pooling subtly along edges and recesses to enhance the sculptural quality of the vessels. The bases bear an inscription reading “Daguan yuannian” (大观元年).
