Milton Shield, of cast composite stone. The primary surface of mock boulle, above which sit the cameo style paired figures after Paradise Lost, centering Adam and Eve after Raphael. The original design for the shield by Leonard Morel-Ladeuil (French, 1820-1888). The original was made of silver and bronze, and was presented at the 1867 Paris Exposition Universelle. The shield here, last third, 20th Century. 

{Approximate dimensions:  32 1/4" high x 24 1/2" wide.}.

Very good condition with minor surface wear overall, including scratches, several small losses to relief, some pitting primarily to sides. Two marks of green marker to Eve figure and one to leaf, slight discoloration to framing trim. Please contact the Furniture and Decorative Arts Department for a detailed condition report on this lot.
