A Japanese Kutani porcelain bottle vase with a rounded, globular body rising into a tall trumpet neck. The surface is finished in an iron-red overglaze ground with gilt detailing. The primary side carries a large circular reserve showing four horses rearing in an animated face-to-face composition, modeled through softly raised overglaze enamels. The opposite side depicts two ducks swimming in a pond on a light enamel wash, allowing contrast against the surrounding patterned field. The shoulder transitions with formal lotus-lappet and geometric patterned grounds leading to a key-fret band encircling the neck. The base bears a red bordered square seal mark. {Approximate dimensions - height 11 3/8 inches}.
