Haviland Limoges Porcelain Painted Fish Service, comprising soup tureen, cover and stand, oval serving platter, 11 rim soup plates and 13 dinner plates. Cover to tureen with sculptural cluster of scallop, mussel, fishes and conch, glazed in the white, the plates shell moulded to edges, and cavettos lightly rib-moulded. All pieces painted in polychrome enamels with fish, eels, nets, harpoons, fruit and vegetables, in a fruits de mer theme. Marked to undersides, Haviland Limoges, France in green, and castle HAVILAND LIMOGES. Mid 20th Century.
In France, this would be a service to be used specifically for bouillabaisse, or similar fish stews.
{Approximate dimensions: Tureen, 9" H. x 14" W. x 10" D., underplate 13" Diameter, platter 2" H. x 23 3/4" W. x 10" D., rim soups 1 3/4" H. x 9 1/2" Diameter, the plates, 9 3/4" Diameter.
Condition
Minor surface wear, minimal losses to enamels. Appears never to have been used.
