Group of Eight Framed Chinese Export Pith Paintings. A set of eight Chinese export pith paintings, each mounted in wooden frames. The group includes oval-cartouche standing portraits of ladies and attendants wearing elaborately patterned robes with jeweled headdresses, genre scenes of figures in courtly pairings, and maritime vignettes featuring a covered trade ship and sailing boats on open water. The palette of cobalt blue, iron-red, soft green, lavender, and ocher washes are applied with minimal background shading, allowing the natural fibrous texture of the pith to remain visible. {Approximate dimensions - largest frame size: 11 3/4 H x 10 1/4 W inches}. 

Light foxing, translucency variation, and paper edge wear are present, consistent across the group. Ask the Asian Art Department for more information.
