Giltwood Thai Garuda Wall Carving
A carved and gilt wood figure depicting Garuda, the mythical bird-man of Hindu and Buddhist tradition, standing in a frontal pose with wings outspread and hands raised. Wearing an elaborate tiered crown and richly ornamented armor, the figure displays a fierce expression with a hooked beak, while the body is richly decorated with incised geometric and floral motifs highlighted in gilt. Small blue glass or stone inlays accent the costume and wings, adding brilliant color and contrast to the gilded surface. Garuda is revered in Thai art as a symbol of royal authority, protection, strength, and victory, and has long served as an important architectural and decorative motif in temples and palaces. Intended for wall display, this sculpture exemplifies the vibrant craftsmanship and religious symbolism of traditional Thai wood carving.
Dimensions: Height: 20 inches (50.8 cm); Width: 10 inches (25.4 cm).
