Chinese Iron-Red and Blue and White Porcelain Dragon Cup.

The cup of gently flared form, decorated in underglaze blue and iron-red enamel with a striding dragon amid scrolling clouds, the exterior encircled by dynamic motifs rendered with strong contrast between the vivid red and cobalt blue tones. The interior plain, the base bearing a six-character underglaze blue mark reading “Da Ming Jiajing nian zhi” (大明嘉靖年制), referring to the Jiajing reign (1522–1566) of the Ming dynasty. The composition reflects imperial symbolism, with the dragon representing power and authority, while the energetic arrangement of clouds enhances the sense of movement and vitality. The combination of iron-red overglaze decoration with blue underglaze elements demonstrates a technically sophisticated approach characteristic of later porcelain production inspired by Ming prototypes.
