Ink and color on paper, inscribed “Recalling the stone lions of the Confucian forest, Wu Guanzhong, 1987” (忆孔林石狮，吴冠中，一九八七), bearing seals reading “Eighties” (八十年代) and “Wu Guanzhong” (吴冠中印).

Depicting an expressive tree rendered with sweeping, calligraphic brushwork and dynamic ink washes, interspersed with vibrant color accents, the composition combining abstraction and figuration. The gnarled trunk and branching forms evoke both natural growth and sculptural presence, while the inclusion of architectural and lion motifs suggests a conceptual linkage to memory and cultural landscape. The work reflects Wu Guanzhong’s mature style, in which traditional ink painting is reinterpreted through a modern, painterly language emphasizing rhythm, structure, and expressive freedom.
