Attributed to Hu Shi (1891–1962), Calligraphy Couplet.

Ink on paper, mounted as a pair of hanging scrolls.

The couplet written in flowing calligraphic script, each vertical panel bearing a line of text reading: “Listening to the qin reveals one’s true nature; avoiding wine for fear of a reckless reputation.” The brushwork is fluid and balanced, with controlled yet expressive strokes characteristic of literati calligraphy. The inscription is signed “Hu Shi,” with a dedication to “Yunsun” indicated in the upper register. A seal reading “Shizhi” accompanies the signature. The overall composition reflects a refined scholarly sensibility, emphasizing moral cultivation and personal restraint through poetic expression.

{Approximate dimensions: Each scroll: H 42 7/8 inches x W 11 3/8 inches (108.9 x 28.9 cm)}
