After Eileen Gray Red Lacquer and Black Leather Transat Chair reissue, the slender, rounded rectangular frame, with polished silver steel hardware, the low slung seat with cushioned bands. Attributed to Ecart, Paris, France. Circa 1990. {Approximate dimensions: 31 1/2" H.x 22" W. x 37 1/2" D.}
Eileen Gray (Ireland, 1878 - Paris, France, 1976) first designed the Transat in the mid 1920s, inspired by the deck chairs on steamships making their way between France and America. The first chairs were for the terrace of Gray’s own home on the coast of Provence, in Roquebrune Cap Martin.
