After Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987), "The Souper Dress," 1966-1967, screenprint in colors on cellulose and cotton A-line dress, [approximate dimensions - overall: 38" H x 23 5/8" W], care label on the inside neckline; manufactured by The Campbell Soup Company, Camden, New Jersey.
In the mid-1960s, disposable paper dresses emerged as an innovative promotional medium. The trend soon entered the fashion world, embraced by designers and youth-oriented boutiques. Reflecting the era’s fascination with inexpensive, disposable fashion, paper dresses also attracted the attention of Andy Warhol, who created several customized examples. Although this “Souper” dress is not a Warhol design, the Campbell Soup Company drew upon the popularity of his iconic soup-can imagery in marketing the dress through a mail-order promotion.
Condition
Dress is in good condition. One area of a stain at the bottom of dress. Framed: 43 1/2" H x 29" W.
