A Hetian Jade Carving of an Auspicious Beast, Qing Dynasty. {L 2 1/4 x W 1 1/2 x D 1 1/8 inches}.

Provenance: From the collection of the distinguished San Francisco collector Irving Freedenberg, known as “Bill.”

Appraisal History: The present work was appraised on July 6, 1979, by Leonard Bowman, a fine arts appraiser active in San Francisco and Honolulu. Listed as Item 10 on page 3 of the appraisal, the work was identified at that time as dating to “the later part of the Early Medieval Period, 6th century A.D.” and assigned a replacement and insurable value of $1,000.
