A Chinese Marble-Inset and Inlaid Armchair. Of square form, the hardwood frame extensively inlaid with mother-of-pearl and hardstone motifs, including flowering branches, auspicious symbols, and scrolling foliage. The pierced back is centered by a circular marble panel naturally veined to suggest a mountainous landscape, set within a round frame decorated with additional inlay. The shaped crest rail and arms feature openwork carving and inlaid decoration en suite. The solid seat above a carved apron, raised on straight legs joined by stretchers, the lower apron also pierced and inlaid. {Approximate dimensions: height 40 1/4 inches x width 26 inches x depth 19 inches}.
The wood surfaces show surface wear, including minor scratches, scuffs, and areas of rubbing. Inlaid elements appear largely intact, with possible minor losses or lifting to small inlay pieces visible upon close inspection.
