An Archaistic Bronze Incense Burner with a Hardwood Stand

Qing Dynasty to Republic Period

The bronze incense burner of compressed rectangular form, raised on four tapering legs and flanked by a pair of upright loop handles. Each side is cast in relief with stylized taotie masks framed by archaistic borders, while the neck is encircled by a band of leiwen (key-fret) decoration. The reticulated domed cover is surmounted by a recumbent mythical beast finial and pierced with openwork apertures to allow the fragrance of burning incense to escape. The burner is accompanied by a fitted carved hardwood stand. Drawing inspiration from ritual bronzes of the Shang and Zhou dynasties, the piece reflects the enduring popularity of archaistic design during the Qing Dynasty and Republic period.

青铜仿古香炉连木座

清至民国

香炉铜铸，四方鼓腹，平口，四柱足，两侧饰立耳。炉身四面浮雕饕餮纹，并以回纹饰带环绕颈部，通体仿商周青铜礼器形制。炉盖呈穹顶式镂空设计，顶部铸卧瑞兽钮，四周开透孔，以利香气散逸，兼具实用与装饰功能。配雕制硬木座，与炉身相契。整体造型古朴凝练，体现了清至民国时期仿古青铜器的典型风格。
