Yōshū Chikanobu (Japanese, 1838–1912), “Tea Ceremony,” from the Series The Inner Palace of Chiyoda. A Meiji-period ōban tate-e woodblock-print triptych depicting four court ladies in a garden setting. Signed at right “Yōshū Chikanobu” (楊洲周延). The publisher’s cartouche records that it was printed on September 7 and published on September 10, Meiji 28 (1895). The women’s black hair and white garments are finely rendered with embossed details, creating a pronounced three-dimensional texture. Framed. {Height 19 1/2 inches x Length 36 inches}.
