Victorian Mahogany Automaton Tall Case Clock, the steel face marked Griffith & Son, Denbigh. The calendar clock face with four animals to corners, under the arched top with a lion whose eyes move to "follow" the pendulum action of the clock. The hood with glazed door to front, under broken arches centering a cluster of grapes, and with wheat-sheaf and turned columns, the case with turned and carved columns, burl and parquet veneer. Circa 1830. 

Griffiths, active clockmakers in Denbigh and elsewhere in Wales, 1800-1840, Griffiths and Son, (David)  1800 - 1894. According to the People's Collection, Wales, David was better known in his lifetime as the "Archdruid 'Clwydfardd'."

Condition

Very good, functioning condition, minor losses to veneer, minor nicks and chips. Face crazed. Includes key(s). Please contact the Furniture and Decorations Department for a detailed condition report on this lot.
