Two French Paisley Shawls: the square shawl with black field and embroidered with deep border of stylized boteh in colors; the rectangular example woven with very black central medallion and long, stylized boteh throughout, and with lappet borders. Circa 1860 - 1870.

The square example in very good condition, minor surface wear and dirt, losses to and loss threads. The rectangular example was used as a wall textile at one point, with canvas strip along one selvedge edge back. Minor splitting along selvedge sides, lacking fringe completely, minor dirt.
