Two English Transitional Needlework Specimens, comprising a William and Mary picture of a woman in a garden, surrounded by oak trees, various animals, a dragon, a turtle, strawberries, apples on the tree, tulips, and an oak tree with fancifully colored leaves, a large home above the apple tree, and above all, a sun with swirling clouds. Worked in wool on linen. Circa 1690. The second, a pieced pillow cover, from the parts of a Georgian needlework picture, possibly showing Queen Ann, amidst stylized blooming flowers, on a low mounded hill. Stylized flowers and foliate elements on a blue ground. Circa 1705.

{Approximate dimensions: 10 3/4" x 13", the smaller, including edges, the second 21" x 25", including fringe.}.

The first, slightly warped, losses to edges, but with vibrant coloration, lightly stained to center area. The second, with many cut out sections loose, on a later backing, and with the back of poly linen in pale blue and fringe. Losses to one area, minor losses and loose sections, loose stitches, threads.
