A Group of Two Chinese Gold-Couched Embroidery Panels, circa 1950s.

Comprising a red-ground “Eight Immortals Celebrating Longevity” panel, depicting the Eight Daoist Immortals arranged within a large stylized shou character and accompanied by auspicious birthday inscriptions; and a blue-ground “Nine-Dragon Wall” panel, embroidered with nine dragons amid clouds above waves.

The inscription of the first panel indicates that Guangpei was one of five family members who presented this work to their mother, Mrs. Mei Lin Lee Woo, who was born on October 13, 1894. Guangpei and Qing Kun were relatives, further connecting the work to Qing Kun’s family and to the history of San Francisco’s Chinese community.

Michaan’s Auctions gratefully acknowledges the descendants of Mr. Qing Kun for offering this group of works and for generously sharing their invaluable family history, which allows its broader cultural and historical significance to be more fully understood.

中国盘金绣“八仙祝寿”及“九龙壁”挂屏两件，约1950年代

一件红地盘金绣“八仙祝寿”图，八仙人物巧妙分布于巨大的变体“寿”字之中，并饰吉祥贺寿题记；另一件蓝地盘金绣“九龙壁”图，九龙穿行于祥云之间，下饰海水纹。

“八仙祝寿”题款显示，广培是五位共同赠送者之一，他们将这件作品赠予母亲梅林·李·吴夫人（Mrs. Mei Lin Lee Woo，生于1894年10月13日）。广培与庆昆先生具有亲属关系，从而使本作进一步与庆昆家族及旧金山华人社群的历史联系起来。
