Two Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Flower Pots and Covers

This finely matched pair of famille rose porcelain flower pots is of unusual hexagonal form, each rising from a tapering foot to a broad, waisted body surmounted by a pierced cover. The bodies are richly decorated in polychrome enamels and gilding, with alternating cartouches depicting elegant court ladies gathered within garden pavilions and terraces, interspersed with floral compositions featuring exotic birds amid blossoming branches. Elaborate molded and applied floral ornament covers much of the surface, creating a luxurious three-dimensional effect rarely encountered in standard porcelain production.

The pierced covers suggest that the vessels were intended as decorative flower holders or bulb pots, allowing stems or branches to be arranged through the openings.
