Salvatore "Cherni" Cenigliaro was a renowned "Golden Age" carousel horse carver.  He worked for Gustav Dentzel and PTC.  He was working as early as 1902, and moved to California to teach carving in 1928.  This lot likely represents a carving from that period, and is a rare example of a carved item outside of a carousel context.
