This is a late Qing Dynasty Chinese Dehua porcelain figure of Guanyin with wood stand. The finely modeled figure shown seated upon an integral two-tiered lotus throne, wearing voluminous robes and beaded jewelry, her hair arranged in a high chignon and her eyes downcast in meditation, covered overall in a white glaze, together with a carved wood stand. {Height 22 inches x Width 11 1/4 inches x Depth 10 inches}. {Height with stand: 25 inches}.

清晚期中国德化窑白釉观音坐像，配木座。观音塑造精美，结跏趺坐于一体成型的双层莲花宝座之上，身着宽大衣袍，佩戴璎珞珠饰，发髻高束，双目低垂，呈冥想之态，通体施白釉，并配雕刻木座。
尺寸：高22英寸，宽11 1/4英寸，深10英寸；连座高25英寸。

Condition
Surface dust and grime, repaired crack at base measuring 1 3/4" and small crack at back of head near hair, otherwise appears in good condition. For full condition report and additional photographs, contact Asian Art Department.

Lots 3374–3376 and 3414–3418 come from the family collection of Julia Tsui. Michaan’s is honored to present these works with the generous support of Ms. Tsui. Her late husband, Nelson Tsui (1932–2022), was a British-trained master mariner who later served in the Marine Department of the Hong Kong Government. According to his autobiography, he began his maritime career with Alfred Holt & Co. (the Blue Funnel Line), trained in England, and in 1961 received his Certificate of Competency as Master of Foreign-Going Steamships. He was the author of My Unique Memoirs:

Julia Tsui’s mother was Kwan Ying Lin (关影怜, née Chow Lin 周莲; died November 18, 1979), a native of Xiaolan, Zhongshan, Guangdong. Active from the 1920s through the 1950s, she was a celebrated leading female performer in Cantonese opera who also appeared in Hong Kong films.
