Peter Voulkos (American, 1924-2002), "Fred Yam Teapot," 1969, (presentation gift to Fred Martin), glazed ceramic, [approximate dimensions - overall: 12 3/4" H x 14" W x 9" D], signed and dated 'P Voulkos 1969' in pencil on the underside.

Teapot has some weight. There are existing repairs to the blue petals on the teapot cover, and to "spout" caused by the San Francisco earthquake of 1989. Losses to some tips on the teapot cover. Some missing pieces. Surface dust and dirt, handling wear. Contact Fine Arts Department for additional photos.

Provenance: Estate of Fred Martin (1927-2022), thence, by descent. 

Fred Martin was Director, President, and Dean, as well as Professor at the San Francisco Art Institute, 1958-1992. Voulkos taught at the SFAI when not too busy as Chair, Ceramics Department, University of California, Berkeley (1959 - 1984.), and participated in group shows, both at SFAI, and at multiple locations throughout his career. Voulkos is included as an artist in the San Francisco / Bay Area "Funk Pottery" movement of the 1960s.
