Minnie Pwerle (Australian/Aboriginal, circa 1920-2006), "Awelye-Atnwengerrp," 2005, acrylic on canvas. Unsigned. Numbered ASAAMP1555 verso. [Approximate dimensions - canvas: 53 1/2" H x 43 1/2" W]. Notes: This lot includes a documents from Aranda Aboriginal Art. Artist's Bio: Minnie Pwerle was an Alyawarre woman and custodian of Atnwengerrp, in the Utopia region of Central Australia - sister-in-law to Emily Kame Kngwarreye and mother of celebrated artist Barbara Weir. She did not pick up a brush until 1999, in her late seventies, painting for the first time at DACOU, the gallery of her own grandson, Fred Torres. In the seven remarkable years that followed, before her passing in 2006, she became one of the most sought-after names to emerge from the Utopia art movement - named among Australia's 50 most collectible artists, exhibited on four continents, and held today in every major state gallery in the country.

Canvas was previously on stretcher bars, now unstretched. Staple punctures along the edges. Previously rolled. Surface dirt, creases, and some folds along the edges. Overall, in good condition.
