Meissen Porcelain Figural Group Allegory of Matrimony, after the 18th Century figure designed by Michel Victor Acier (1736-1799). modelled in the round. To the forefront, young lovers, she putting out her hand to accept a ring, sheep to her side, and wolf to his; behind her, a young holding a garland of flowers over a baby cradle; behind him, a figure of the purse snatch, and looking out over all, a Bacchic bust, modelled in glazed white porcelain, over a Neoclassical style plinth. Marks in underglaze blue with crossed swords, pressnummer incised 834, impressed 51 and smaller impressed 52 to underside.

Entire base of figure interior with two deep firing cracks in manufacture, causing the base to be cracked in three pieces and glued back together. Most of the figures not overtly affected by the damage. Of the woman to be wed, her right hand broken off and replaced, professionally, with the thumb of the replacement broken off and glued back on, overpainted. Loss to youth's lower left leg, holding the garland, and to left side cradle rocker front. Tip of wolf right ear absent. Firing crack to base of plinth, visible. Tiny black firing flaw to bacchus near left breast.

Property from the Collection of Frances and Ronald Dutro. San Francisco. Ronald Dutro was born in Oakland and began his lifelong opera career as a teenager with the San Francisco Opera. Frances Thanash was born in Fresno, and was a highly regarded singer in her right. After Ronald Dutro won the American Opera Auditions in 1959, he made his European debut at La Scala, Milan, Italy. The Dutros ended up staying in Europe for twenty-five years, where Ron sang baritone roles. The last fifteen years of their Continental sojourn, the Dutros lived in Berlin, Germany. There, they entertained a large variety of singers, including David Bowie.
The Dutros returned to San Francisco in the 1980s, where they re-installed their notable Salon room, filled with Meissen and other Continental Porcelains, Art Nouveau and later cameo glass, and their large collection of artwork by German Artist Richard Muller. Ron Dutro died in in 2006, Frances died in 2020.
